According to the Attorney General, the structural investigation process was launched in March last year. In other words, Germany is not investigating certain people yet, but is collecting information and evidence.
Frank stressed that the current focus is on interrogating Ukrainian refugees “who may have an opinion on war crimes in Ukraine”.
The Attorney General said that Germany, together with other partners, is developing a special questionnaire in different languages. In addition, the German Federal Criminal Police Office is also involved in the investigation. That’s why the German authorities are preparing for a possible subsequent case on German soil, at their foreign partners, or at the International Criminal Court, Frank shared.
He added that those who committed war crimes in Ukraine and were linked to Germany would be prosecuted by German structures.
