Scientists from the University of Copenhagen found that coffee with milk has an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. The results of the researchers’ work were published in the journal Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
When bacteria, viruses, and other foreign substances enter the body, the immune system responds by using white blood cells and various chemicals to protect itself, which causes inflammation. In addition, inflammation can be caused by oxidative stress – damage to cells as a result of oxidation by oxygen. Polyphenols are known to be beneficial for humans as they help reduce oxidative stress.
“When a polyphenol reacts with an amino acid, its inhibitory effect on inflammation in immune cells is enhanced. We conducted an experiment with immune cells treated with a combination of polyphenols and amino acids. It turned out that they fought inflammation twice as effectively as cells to which only polyphenols were added,” the researchers said. .
Coffee beans are high in polyphenols and milk is rich in protein. Therefore, scientists came to the conclusion that drinks containing these components have a beneficial effect on immunity.
