Most Russians on holiday rely only on a first aid kit 03:00

Two-thirds of tourists encountered intestinal infections and poisoning while traveling. In such situations, most Russians rely solely on their own first aid kit. This was shown by a study by SBER EAPTEKA and the online booking service for Ostrovok hotels and apartments, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.

Survey results showed that more than 83% of respondents relied solely on their usual medication; tourists take medications from home while on holiday and use them as their main method of treatment. At the same time, much fewer respondents (28%) stated that they purchase medicines from local pharmacies, if necessary, on the advice of pharmacists.

One in ten tourists contact an insurance company in case of illness; About 11% said they were seeking treatment advice from experts. Almost the same number of Russian tourists (10%) seek professional medical help. Therefore, only 5% of tourists go to the doctor or call a doctor to the hotel if they feel symptoms of illness during their travels.

It is curious that 7 percent of tourists completely ignore the symptoms of the disease, do not limit themselves in activities and continue their holidays as usual. About 3% prefer to stay in a hotel room until the symptoms of the disease disappear, but do not use medication to support the body. Less than 1% of respondents are ready to take extreme measures, that is, cut short their holidays and return home for treatment.

Experts also compiled the most common types of discomfort that tourists encounter while traveling, according to the survey results.

Intestinal infections and poisonings took first place in the number of votes; More than half of tourists (61%) were exposed to them at least once during their trip.

In second place comes cold and flu: Approximately 48% of tourists experienced these symptoms. Interestingly, 7% of those surveyed had contracted Covid during their travels.

The three most common ailments are sunstroke and heatstroke; As it turns out, one in four tourists has experienced these ailments at least once in their life while on holiday.

Approximately 22% of tourists admitted that they noticed allergy symptoms while travelling. Up to 19% of survey participants suffered fractures, bruises and injuries, and one in ten tourists experienced eye infections or eye irritation. The same number of tourists experienced at least one migraine, insomnia or anxiety during travel.

The demand for drugs for the treatment of intestinal infections and poisonings increased by 20% in 2023 to 2022, based on unit sales. Moreover, for the last two years, demand began to increase in May and continued until mid-autumn, that is, throughout the entire holiday period. A similar trend has been observed in the antihistamines category in the last two years; The sales increase in this product group in 2023 was 18% compared to 2022, and there was also sales growth in the category of drugs for the treatment of infectious eye diseases in 2023. In 2023, sales increased by 33% compared to 2022 indicators.

Significantly fewer respondents said they had experienced heart disease (high or low blood pressure, heart attack or stroke) or infectious disease (fever, malaria, measles) – 3% and 2%, respectively.
