The Epic Games Store has effectively blocked Russian players from pre-ordering the space horror title The Callisto Protocol. The game cannot be added to the shopping cart, and for both the base version (which even lacks a price tag) and the Day One Edition priced at 1299 rubles, there are no official comments yet from the store or publisher about the restriction.
The situation is mirrored on Steam, where Russian players can still access The Callisto Protocol, but the price differs significantly. The Day One Edition is listed at 3645 rubles, while the Digital Deluxe Edition climbs to 4860 rubles, presenting a stark contrast to the Epic Games Store pricing and availability in the region.
The narrative of The Callisto Protocol is set in the year 2320 and unfolds on Callisto, one of Jupiter’s moons. Players assume the role of Jacob Lee, an inmate at the Black Iron space prison. A catastrophic event transforms fellow inmates and prison staff into grotesque monsters, thrusting the protagonist into a fight for survival in a claustrophobic, high-stakes environment.
The game draws clear inspiration from the Dead Space trilogy, adopting a similar design philosophy that emphasizes methodical resource management, atmospheric tension, and visceral, fear-inducing combat. Its visuals aim to evoke a bleak, industrial sci-fi world, where every corridor and cell block feels alive with danger and decayed beauty alike.
The Callisto Protocol was scheduled for release on December 2, 2022, and it was slated to arrive on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. In the lead-up to launch, new gameplay footage and previews circulated online, giving players glimpses of space-locked prisons, grim corridors, and the brutal encounters that define the game’s tone.
