LEGO Fortnite blends survival with creative building, inviting players to craft not just a single shelter but a full village or several settlements. By expanding and refining the town, players sharpen their skills. This guide explains how to construct a village, raise its settlement rating, and upgrade its components.

Building in LEGO Fortnite is straightforward and enjoyable thanks to grid-like controls. From simple campsites to intricate multi-layer structures, it feels like assembling a real construction set.

Collection of building materials

To craft anything in LEGO Fortnite, the player first gathers basic resources by exploring the world. Along the way, look for discarded items on the ground. These often become wood or granite, and using appropriate tools speeds up the collection process.

Construction mode

After gathering sufficient materials, open the building menu by pressing the B button. It presents a catalog of items sorted into groups such as Useful Items and Furniture. Choose a item to create, and it will appear as a projected project in the world.

Placement of buildings

When the desired blueprint is placed in the chosen spot, confirm with the RT button and begin construction. Continue collecting resources from the surrounding environment to upgrade and improve future builds.

Construction of multi-phase buildings

For larger structures like houses, start with a base piece and add components step by step. The number of phases appears in the item description. As each piece is selected from the build menu, it snaps neatly into place, forming the final design. A simple hut can be built in three phases, with a clear initial and final layout illustrated in the planning view.

Remove buildings

Players can dismantle any structure they or others built. A few hits with a pickaxe or weapon break the assembly and recover some materials for reuse.

How to build a settlement

Creating a village in LEGO Fortnite begins with laying out a central square. Through the early tutorial steps, players assemble a campfire, a basic hut, and a workbench. These elements unlock access to key items and advance progress. Wood and granite, scattered around, remain essential resources.

To form a square on the map, 10 units of wood and 10 units of granite are required.

Marking the square assigns color and symbol to the village icon on the map. The settlement name itself cannot be changed later, maintaining a consistent identity.

Completing the square grants rewards and unlocks new mechanics based on the village level.

How to level a village

The village ranking tracks how many buildings have been constructed and which items have been created. It functions as a comfort index for the settlement. Building a variety of structures—from walls to new workbenches and decorative elements—raises the rating. When the rating reaches a level that allows a settlement upgrade, the town square glows with a gold light.

The progress bar in the top right corner shows the village ranking at a glance.

How to improve a village

Once the village earns enough experience to advance, head to the central square. Open the Settlement Upgrade tab to view the requirements for the next tier and the benefits granted upon unlocking it.

Next steps involve gathering the needed resources and pressing the upgrade button. Early upgrades typically require the following materials:

  • Level 2: 15 wood and 15 granite;
  • Level 3: 10 planks (from sawmill wood) and 20 granite;
  • Level 4: 10 roots, 15 planks, 25 granite.

Upgrades often push players to explore the world and expand their collection. There are 10 upgrade levels in total.

What’s in Upgrading a Village: How Can You Unlock More Blueprints?

Raising the settlement level yields rewards such as new residents, hired workers, or more visitors. The Settlement Center tab shows the available rewards for each level.

More importantly, upgrades unlock new building recipes. To obtain fresh blueprints, players must explore the world and improve individual items, such as a workbench.
