In a LEGO Fortnite settlement, players can build a garden of plants and a farm to unlock new features. This guide covers everything you need to know about planting seeds in the game.

There are plenty of useful plants already growing around the village, but you can also cultivate your own crops without leaving the settlement. Having plants at the base is handy for stocking up on food when it’s needed most.

Placing a chest near plants allows food storage for all players to share when required. It’s wise to keep a steady supply of seeds in the garden so you can quickly harvest on the go without spending hours replowing seeds.

How to make a shovel

The first step is crafting a shovel to dig soil. To build a workbench, you’ll need three units of wood and five units of granite.

Next comes a sawmill; its creation requires five units of wood and 15 units of granite. Then it’s time to craft a scoop, which needs three wooden sticks and one plank.

How to dig soil

Equip the shovel and select a spot on the ground to loosen the soil. Any soft surface works. The tiles taken from aren’t destroyed during digging. Press R2 on the controller to use the shovel; the soil lands automatically in the inventory.

Where can you find fertilizers?

Fertilizers are easy to locate by exploring areas where animals roam. Brown piles on the ground are fertilizers—they’re small and often hidden among grass and shrubs, so stay observant.

Getting fertilizer early can be helped by feeding animals pumpkins, raspberries, or corn by tossing these items on the ground near them.

How to make a garden plot

To grow seeds, a garden plot is needed. The Garden Plot recipe is unlocked when the shovel is crafted. To make one tile, gather two soil types and one fertilizer.

Where to find seeds

Seeds appear in the wild as random drops from creatures or inside chests in ruined houses or caves. Some chests are well concealed, so it helps to search thoroughly by breaking through walls and looking around.

As you progress and craft granite items, building a stone crusher unlocks the recipe for a grain mill that yields seeds when food is processed.

What kinds of seeds are there?

Below is a list of seeds found in LEGO Fortnite, showing where to locate them and what food they produce. Other fruits and mushrooms exist in the game, but they aren’t grown from seeds and aren’t listed here.

  • A snowberry seed comes from a snowberry bush. It can be used to make snowberry cocktails for heat resistance or eaten raw.
  • Raspberry seeds can be found while exploring or after cutting a raspberry bush. Raspberries restore health and hunger.
  • Wheat grains are found by exploring or harvesting wheat. Wheat can be ground into flour to craft foods that restore health and hunger.
  • Pumpkin seeds come from wild pumpkins or exploration. Pumpkins restore health and hunger when eaten.
  • Hot pepper seeds come from plants or exploration. Hot peppers replenish hunger and health and provide some cold resistance.

How to plant seeds

Choose a good spot for the garden and lay down the tiles there. To plant seeds, click a garden plot to open the inventory screen. Move any seeds to the right side to place them in the plot’s inventory.

Then wait for the plants to grow. A small sprout rising above the soil indicates the process has started, as shown in the visuals.

The plants need time to fully mature and bear fruit. The game shows progress stages. When ready, visit the garden plot and harvest the produce.

Seeds grow automatically, so players don’t need to water them. The more seeds placed on a plot, the longer the crop keeps producing. A plant will die when harvested; if at least one seed remains, new growth begins. Once all seeds are used, growth stops, but the plot can host new seedlings.

How to make a farm with animals

The vibrant LEGO Fortnite world invites players to gather resources, build shelters, and even befriend local wildlife. Caring for the island’s animals can yield vital survival resources.

How to make friends with animals

All animals enjoy different treats. Chickens, cows, and sheep are often attracted to pumpkins, raspberries, and corn. Dropping these items near an animal calls it over, and feeding it can result in rewards like eggs, milk, or wool. Animals can also be hunted for meat.

Keep in mind that drops aren’t guaranteed every time, so repeating this will improve the chances of a reward.

How to build a paddock and farm

To create a sustainable farming system, protect and care for the animal friends. Build simple enclosures from wooden half walls and lure animals inside by tossing food at the entrance. Regular fences are too easy to jump, so half walls help keep predators out.

Once the animals arrive for the treats, finish the pathway with the last blocks of fencing. This creates your own livestock to manage and harvest resources from. The challenge is that sometimes animals may wander off.

Tips for caring for animals

Avoid carrying weapons around timid creatures. Try different foods to learn each pet’s preference. Petting multiple times can increase the chance of resource rewards. Be mindful of items like eggs, milk, wool, and fertilizer. Regularly maintain cages to keep animals safe.

Use the materials gathered to prepare nutritious meals, craft handy gear, and grow crops. As the farming community expands, the game’s possibilities grow too.
