Yesterday, on October 20, 1917 Studios, Russian developers released a role-playing game with visual novel elements on Steam titled Heads Will Roll: Downfall. The publisher behind the project is The Valkyrie Initiative. At the time this update was written, the game held a perfect rating of 100 percent.

The game unfolds in a medieval world where the central tale follows a soldier desperate to elude justice. He is accused of a crime he did not commit, and clearing his name becomes the driving force that pushes him into a perilous journey that could alter his fate and the fate of those around him.

One description notes that the player assumes the role of one among countless faceless foot soldiers sent by the English Crown to suppress a rebellion in Scotland. As a mere participant in this vast conflict, the player, alongside the protagonist, will navigate treacherous scenarios, forge close alliances, confront dangerous foes, and face a succession of tough choices that shape the story.

The combat system is turn-based, inviting players to think carefully before every action. In battle, outcomes hinge on multiple variables, including the warrior’s injuries, core physical attributes, mastery of weapons, fatigue, armor protection, and the chosen armament for each clash.

Alongside its strategic battles, the game features a romantic thread where players must balance personal feelings with obligation. Players can also engage in crafting, utilizing a wide array of authentic weaponry such as swords, spears, axes, throwing daggers, and crossbows. A reputation mechanic tracks how decisions influence how the world responds to the hero over time.
