Indie studio Gelato Games has unveiled Guns of Fury, a retro action title inspired by classic Metal Slug adventures. A trailer has already shown off the fast, arcade-style combat and side-scrolling sequences players can expect on their screens.
Guns of Fury is being developed for PC via Steam and for Nintendo Switch, with a design that nods to the beloved Metroidvania lineage. Players will explore a sprawling, interconnected world, unlock new abilities and weapons, and push through a chain of epic boss confrontations while uncovering hidden paths and secrets along the way.
According to its description, the core idea is to traverse a devastated future grappling with an energy shortage. A scientist creates a breakthrough energy source called Tetracells, but soon after the laboratory is destroyed and the inventor is kidnapped. A powerful corporation intends to weaponize the discovery to bend the world to its will. The mission falls to a capable special agent named Vincent Fury, who must locate the scientist, rescue the researcher, and reclaim access to the Tetracells to prevent global domination.
Guns of Fury emphasizes stylized 16-bit visuals reminiscent of a Sega Mega Drive era, paired with hundreds of items and a lineup of more than ten formidable bosses. Players will experience character growth through skill leveling while discovering numerous hidden areas and surprises that reward exploration and experimentation.
Among its notable features are retro-inspired art, a broad array of equipment and upgrades, dense level design that rewards backtracking, and a soundtrack that captures the frenetic energy of classic arcade runs. The game invites players to chart their own route through the world, tackle optional challenges, and piece together the broader conspiracy behind the energy crisis as they progress.
Release timing aligns with the current year, and Steam hosts a dedicated page so fans can wishlist and track updates. The game aims to bring a nostalgic but fresh experience to players in Canada, the United States, and other regions where retro action fans gather to enjoy tight gameplay and accessible, contemporary design elements.
