What is the equilibrium level and why it matters

The equilibrium level is the world level a player is in. It rises by one unit every ten Mastery levels, with few exceptions in the early and late stages. If someone has played Genshin Impact, you can think of it as the World level, while Mastery mirrors the Adventure Rank.

The balance between your world and your character growth shapes what you encounter and what you earn. Higher equilibrium means tougher foes and bigger loot, but it also unlocks new content and keeps progression moving forward.

What does the equilibrium level influence?

  • Enemy level and strength.
  • Loot value and drop amounts from enemies.
  • Rewards for completing dungeons.
  • The odds of getting 5 Star Artifacts.

Balance level does not affect:

  • Item contents in chests.
  • Rewards for finishing missions.
  • Rewards for completing the virtual universe.
  • Rewards for finishing the Hall of Oblivion.

Without raising the equilibrium, character progression, attribute growth, and access to new content stall. Most importantly, advancing Mastery hinges on increasing the balance level.

Higher dungeon tiers unlock as equilibrium grows.

The first balance level is crucial. Without it, players cannot access several tests such as Crimson sepals, Corrosion Caves, Echoes of War, and Stagnant Shadow, which also requires two equilibrium levels to farm climbing materials for characters.

Access to some trials appears after completing certain missions or boss encounters.

Ways to quickly raise your balance in Honkai: Star Rail

The equilibrium level tracks with Mastery, so faster progress comes from leveling Mastery. The simplest path is to follow the main story and complete side quests. Those activities grant substantial experience, helping raise both metrics and yield valuable items. Don’t overlook companion tasks and adventures, plus daily training sessions.

Tasks give generous experience, speeding up growth.

When the required Mastery level is reached, for example around level twenty, a quest named Equilibrium Test appears. Following it leads to the Balance Rift and the required dungeon. Completing it raises the balance level, enabling further character development.

In total, six levels become available as players pass the tests:

  • Balance Trial 1: Pathfinder at Level 20
  • Balance Trial 2: Pathfinder at Level 30
  • Balance Trial 3: Pathfinder at Level 40
  • Balance Trial 4: Pathfinder at Level 50
  • Balance Trial 5: Pathfinder at Level 60
  • Balance Trial 6: Pathfinder at Level 65

Be mindful—the monsters in the Equilibrium Trial will be stronger. If the damage or health is insufficient, it is wise to retreat, farm resources, and bolster characters and light cones. Failure is not final; the trial can be retaken as often as needed.

After completing the trials, heroes gain ten additional levels, enabling further Mastery progression.

Rewards for finishing the tests include Star passes, experience resources to level up characters and light cones, loans, and various dishes. Rewards vary with the trial level.

Lower-tier trials yield smaller rewards, while higher tiers grant better loot and resources.

Can the balance be reduced in Honkai: Star Rail?

Currently, lowering the Equilibrium level is not possible in Honkai: Star Rail. Players should plan ahead, upgrading their squad as much as possible before attempting tougher challenges: gather upgrade and ascension materials, and accumulate experience.

Experience earned during locked progress carries over when Equilibrium increases, rather than disappearing.

How to check your balance level

The balance level can be viewed by tapping the smartphone icon on the left side of the screen. It is shown alongside the Mastery level, near the pioneer’s nickname and bio.
