About a year ago, a game named Epic was announced, drawing on Slavic myth with a focus on deep, atmospheric storytelling. It is developed by Far-Far Games Studio, and new information about the project has emerged since then. The team has continued to evolve the game’s vision, inviting players to explore a world steeped in myth yet rooted in a tangible, living landscape.

The project originally ran on Unreal Engine 4, but the developers have transitioned to Unreal Engine 5 to harness modern rendering capabilities and more responsive world-building tools. This shift brought changes to the core design, including adjustments to combat mechanics. Rather than following the tight, challenging rhythm of Souls-like games, Epic will now embrace a combat system inspired by classic action role-playing games, emphasizing fluid timing, varied weapon choices, and a more player-friendly approach to encounters.

The game’s conceptual world has also seen a shift. While the earlier concept aimed to weave together a world influenced by Slavic visions of heaven and underworld, the current direction emphasizes a very tangible, lived reality. Yet danger remains in abundance, as monsters populate the landscape and challenge every step taken by the player. The setting feels grounded, with mythic motifs serving as texture rather than the entire frame of reference.

Developers describe Gardarika as a world with its own life, where player choices do not always steer events in a straight line. The world behaves with a sense of agency that mirrors many open-world experiences, yet it maintains a distinctly mythic atmosphere. Some comparisons have been drawn to other expansive, lore-rich universes, underscoring the game’s ambition to blend exploration, danger, and discovery into a cohesive whole.

While a release date has not been announced, the studio continues to assemble a team and refine the project’s direction. The ongoing recruitment signals a strong commitment to delivering a well-rounded, ambitious title that blends myth, atmosphere, and action into a single, immersive experience.
