Independent developer MoonGlint has unveiled a new survival horror project titled Echoes of the Living. This game channels the mood and aesthetics of the 1990s, embracing the spirit of the early Resident Evil titles while offering its own distinctive twists.
The video showcase captures the fixed camera angles, tense soundtrack, menacing enemies, eerie locales, and even the visual design of the protagonists, signaling a clear homage to the original Resident Evil experience.
The narrative unfolds in 1996 within a tranquil Northern European town that shrouds itself in fog one night. As the mist thickens, a wave of terror sweeps through the streets, turning many residents into wandering dead and transforming the community into a claustrophobic maze of danger.
The game centers on two primary characters:
- Laurel – a determined survivor searching for her missing comrades while staying ahead of the infection and uncovering hidden truths along the way;
- Liam, a former SWAT officer who arrives in a town seeking a fresh start with his fiancée. The outbreak derails that plan, and his goal becomes protecting his partner while escaping the nightmare that has taken over their lives.
Developers emphasize core gameplay elements such as challenging puzzles, scarce ammunition, backtracking through familiar routes, branching storylines, a fully three-dimensional environment with contemporary visuals, weapon upgrades, and a score inspired by classic horror soundtracks.
Echoes of the Living is anticipated to launch in the fourth quarter of 2023. On Steam, players can already add the title to their wishlist, and a playable demo is expected to arrive soon.
MoonGlint has previously showcased a remake of the first Resident Evil, presented in a first-person perspective and built on Unreal Engine 4. Public updates around the project continue to spark interest among retro-horror fans.
