Dungeonborne is a first person PvPvE game that invites players to explore dungeons, hunt for valuable loot, and escape before the match timer runs out. The core loop centers on locating and activating portals that appear at random spots within the dungeon. This guide explains how to locate portals and secure an exit during a Dungeonborne match.

How escaping the map works in Dungeonborne

In Dungeonborne, the primary objective is to delve into the dungeon, gather valuable loot, and find a portal that leads off the map. Portals appear a few minutes after the survival begins and spawn in random locations, keeping players guessing and on edge.

You can monitor portal appearances through a text log on the right side of the screen. The log shows how many portals remain and which players recently used them. The challenge is that portals do not show up on the map; players must rely on the journal’s information to track them down.

To discover portals, players should survey their surroundings with a careful eye for a distinct blue tint that marks these gateways from a distance. When the player is close enough, a prompt to activate the portal appears. Activation takes roughly 10 seconds, and during this time, other players are alerted to the attempt. The Ritual Whistle can be used to obscure portal activation details from rivals.

Remark: An activated portal is usable by any player. If a portal is found but there is no immediate plan to exit, it is often wise to delay activation until the timing is right.

Besides portals, certain locations feature escape rooms that are shown on the map with blue icons. These rooms offer shelter without using a portal. They carry higher risk, as there are only two such rooms, and once one is used, it becomes inaccessible to others.

How to Survive and Get Off the Map in Dungeonborne

Each Dungeonborne run feels unique since players cannot know where others are ahead of time. Choices vary depending on strategy: sprint for quick loot and exit, or linger to secure more valuable items, fight bosses, or confront rivals.

For players aiming to grab simpler items and leave early, equipping the Ritual Whistle before entering portals helps hide position during portal use. Items like this are typically marked with light blue icons on the map and are often guarded by enemies.

If the plan is to push through to the end of the match, it is usually best to exit through one of the outer portals. By late game, most survivors tend to head toward escape rooms rather than search every corner, which shapes the final approach to the map exit.
