Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t include the traditional fast travel you might expect from big open-world RPGs. This guide explains the different ways players can move around the map efficiently.

Guides for Dragon’s Dogma 2

The map in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is vast, and navigating it becomes a core part of the experience. There are several travel options, though they come with some limits that players will need to work around.

How to get Return Crystals for teleport points

Return Crystals act as quick travel anchors, but obtaining them takes effort. The first crystal is given by Captain Brant, while a second can be bought from the Dragon Life Crystal at the Bay Wayside Shrine in Battahl.

Early on, reaching the required location can be challenging. A practical approach is to level up to about 15 to 20. The temple sits in a cave near a sandy beach. Inside, players should explore: a Rift Stone sits at the center, with a tunnel branching to the left.

Entering the tunnel, the player meets Tempered by the Dragon (The Dragonforged). From this character, Ferrystones, Portcrystals, and Unmaking Arrows can be purchased.

To buy these items, Wyrmslife crystals are needed. They’re earned by hunting dragons and other dragons, yielding crystallized drops of their blood.

How return crystals and spring stones work

As the world unfolds, glowing Recall Crystals appear. They cannot be picked up or moved, but they can be activated and used for teleportation with a small blue Ferrystone. Recall Crystals are rare and typically found as quest rewards from merchants (costs around 10,000 gold) or tucked away in chests across the world.

Players can purchase their own Return Crystals and place them in frequently traveled or favorite spots. Ferrystones are required to teleport between anchors.

The game limits players to placing 10 of their own Return Crystals, but the crystals are reusable. If a crystal is no longer needed, it can be picked up and moved to a new location.

Using carts to get around

Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers two ox carts instead of horses. They travel to major settlements for a fee, with longer journeys costing more.

While carts are slow, they offer a chance to enjoy the scenery. They arrive gently, waking players upon arrival, which can be a drawback if there’s an urgent objective.

Journeys can be interrupted by enemy attacks. The carts are sturdy enough to withstand goblin or wolf assaults, aided by guards. When griffins swoop in with bulls in their claws, problems can arise. If a cart is destroyed in battle, travel by foot becomes necessary.

One major drawback is timing: bullock carts only appear at certain times, so planning morning arrivals helps ensure they’re in place.

Using griffins to move

Riding a griffin isn’t a standard travel method. It’s possible to mount a griffin mid-flight, but the creature may retaliate upon landing. A griffin can be ridden by lying on its back during combat, and endurance is used during shaking or sudden maneuvers. The goal is to push the beast to exhaustion and bring the creature down.

With success, players reach the griffin’s chosen destination. This can be a hidden location or a strategic battle point. Pawns can quickly teleport to the player, enhancing coordination during the journey.
