Valve rolled out a summer patch for Dota 2, focusing on visual enhancements and a new way to handle player behavior. There were no adjustments to game balance, but players can expect a perceptible polish in the graphics and changes to the reporting workflow that affect how players are handled after play sessions.
The patch introduces social signals into matchmaking. Positive feedback, such as liking another player, can influence future encounters, increasing the likelihood of meeting that player again. A new dislike option provides a counterbalance, signaling preference to steer future matches away from that user.
An updated reporting system broadens the categories for grievances. Reports can cover toxicity in text or voice communication, smurfing, interference with teammates, cheating, and coercive role play, among other issues. There is no cap on the number of reports a user can submit, and when a penalty is imposed, the reporter receives a notification about the outcome.
The update also introduces a politeness score that adjusts based on in-game behavior. A real-time mechanism detects toxic conduct during matches and can mute or block chat from those players, helping to maintain a constructive environment without delaying gameplay for others.
The development team improved the map visualization as well. The increased contrast makes dark areas easier to read, cloud formations cast shadows, and light from tower attacks now reflects off terrain and hero models for a more immersive feel.
