At the start of January, the site typically highlights the most striking cosplay of the past year. The list spotlights looks from Baldur’s Gate 3, Atomic Heart, Hogwarts Legacy, and a remake of Resident Evil 4, alongside heroines from Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1.

Atomic Heart

Before its release, Atomic Heart looked almost too ambitious for a studio still proving itself. Honestly, there were doubts about Mundfish’s ability to deliver. Yet the team delivered a polished shooter with BioShock-inspired mechanics set in a retro-futuristic USSR.

Many Atomic Heart images circulated widely in fan culture, especially the twin ballerinas who appear in several cutscenes and serve as the final boss. One of them was portrayed by Lady Melamori.

Special highlight:

Eleanor, a character who operates the main character’s upgrade cabinet, is portrayed as a voluptuous figure. Cosplayed by Alisa Arefieva, this is not canonical, but an interpretation emphasizing personification of inanimate elements. The photographer was 412ART.

Other New Year’s items and tops

Baldur’s Gate 3

Many publications named Baldur’s Gate 3 the best game of 2023. At The Game Awards, it collected more honors than any other title. In cosplay, the half-elf Shadowheart became especially popular. This article centers on the work of the French artist Cinderys.

The tiefling character Karlach also drew attention. With red skin and a passionate temperament, the cosplay by Nastya Volkova, known as Svizee, stood out. Photographer: MIVA.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

The remake of the iconic Resident Evil game faced early criticism for length and some cut levels. Capcom listened to fans and delivered a refreshed version of the fourth installment. The result is a faithful reimagining of the classic, with changes that were welcomed by fans such as Ada’s updated dress. The cosplay of Ada was created by Xenon, with Aku as the photographer.

Special highlight:

However, Miss Wong has long been a cosplay favorite since 2019, and her portrayal of Ashley Graham stood out as a new and notable interpretation. In 2023, several cosplayers embraced the idea of the president’s daughter, with Peach Milky’s shoot demonstrating how a character model can influence in-game representations.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy has earned a place as a top Harry Potter-inspired game. While not flawless, it remains a must-play for fans of the films. Among the cast, Mirabelle Chesnoke has become particularly popular in cosplay, portrayed here by Alice01 as the canonical herbology teacher.

In cosplay circles, the more provocative version of Mirabelle—often with an open shirt or a plunging neckline—has gained traction, as seen in Zhanna Rudakova’s work.

Street Fighter 6

The sixth entry in the Street Fighter series sparked strong cosplay interest. The most prominent figures of 2023 were Cammy and Juri Han. The British special forces operative was brought to life by Helly Valentine, who presented two outfits, one classic and one contemporary.

Juri’s cosplay was crafted by the tall beauty Tniwe. In the game’s plot, her character is so formidable she could outmatch Chun-Li.

    Special highlight:

    Mortal Kombat 1

In the latest installment, several villains are portrayed as heroes, a shift that not everyone welcomed. It is noticeable that female cosplayers are less inclined to depict Mileena, who appeared gentler, while Princess Kitana remains as popular as ever. An excellent example is Vera Andreeva, known as Oichi.
