YouTube Suspends Channel Run by Jokers Vovan and Lexus
The YouTube channel operated by the prank duo known as Vovan and Lexus, whose real names are Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, has been suspended. The platform’s message on the channel stated that the account was suspended for violating YouTube Community Guidelines.
One notable incident involved an interaction in which Lexus, using a name intending to impersonate a member of the Ukrainian leadership, contacted Ben Wallace, the British Defense Secretary. The impersonation presented itself as Denys Shmyhal, who is identified as the Prime Minister of Ukraine in the exchange. In London, observers later reported that the person on the other end of the call realized it was a prank only after a brief exchange. The conversation lasted more than 20 minutes before the deception became clear.
The subsequent dialogue between the British minister and the jokers touched on sensitive topics, with the jokers implying possible support for Ukraine in nuclear weapons development. Wallace is said to have noted that Russia would certainly be displeased by such assistance. Independent observers and media accounts highlighted the risk and potential consequences of misrepresentation in high-level conversations.
During the discussion, the caller suggested that a significant portion of Ukraine’s man-portable anti-tank guided missiles, specifically the NLAW system, might be involved. The remark added another layer of controversy to the exchange and raised questions about the reliability of calls that use impersonation to elicit policy details or commitments.
After reviewing the incident, the British Ministry of Defense requested the removal of the recordings featuring the conversation with the defense secretary. The move was aimed at mitigating any further dissemination of the prank material and to address concerns about the spread of misinformation tied to high-ranking officials.
