By late 2023, Yandex Market announced a bold expansion into furniture that is designed and produced through the company’s own orders, signaling a strategic shift in its product strategy. The plan, reported by Kommersant, envisions a new line of in-house creations managed by the Yandex market brand, with former IKEA Russia staff contributing to product development and to shaping a distinct Yandex-made furniture portfolio. The forecast sets a target of around 3,000 separate items in the catalog by the end of 2025, spanning living room, kitchen, and bedroom categories.
In a first wave, branded sofas and beds have already appeared on the platform. The catalog will expand through the current year to cover additional living room pieces, kitchen essentials, and bedroom furnishings, with the ambition that these products contribute a notable share of Yandex Market’s overall revenue — roughly 10 percent of the division’s turnover is anticipated to come from the furniture line.
Production is planned primarily in Russian factories, aligning with a localized supply strategy. The company is also pursuing partnerships with manufacturers in Belarus and China, enabling a broader production footprint while maintaining efficiency and scale.
Industry observers noted that to successfully move into the furniture market, Yandex Market will need to scale logistics capabilities and introduce assembly services for larger items. These steps would address the common challenges of delivering bulky furniture to customers and ensuring a smooth post-purchase experience in a marketplace setting.
In a separate corporate update, Yandex made a move to relocate infrastructure aspects, transferring certain servers to Kazakhstan, a decision that reflects ongoing adjustments to regional operations and data handling strategies. This shift is part of broader efforts to optimize performance while navigating regulatory and market considerations across the region.
