WhatsApp for Android tests AI text-to-sticker creation in beta

WhatsApp for Android is exploring a new capability that converts written descriptions into stickers using artificial intelligence. This experimental feature appears in a beta release tracked by the WABetaInfo portal, signaling a concrete move toward AI driven message customization.

The feature is currently open to a limited group of beta testers, associated with the build 2.23.17.14 of the Android app. In this version, users who open the stickers tab will encounter a new Create option. Selecting it prompts the user to enter a description, after which WhatsApp generates a sequence of sticker options based on the input text. The user can choose the desired sticker from the generated set to send within a conversation.

As with any generated content, users can interact with the created stickers. If a sticker appears unsuitable, there is a simple way to report it to the development team, helping to refine the AI models over time.

Recipients will be notified that the sticker they receive originated from an AI process.

At present, the text-to-sticker capability is available to just a handful of beta testers. There is no announced plan to roll out the feature to users on the stable WhatsApp version, and broader testing timelines have not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, other Android messaging apps have demonstrated AI driven sticker ideas, including early demonstrations from different regional teams. These initial experiments reflect a growing interest in AI aided content creation within mobile messaging ecosystems.
