WhatsApp on iPhone is testing a feature that lets users generate custom stickers from text prompts using artificial intelligence. This capability appears in the beta builds reported by WABetaInfo, signaling a move toward more AI-assisted messaging within the app.
The new tool entered the beta track on iOS with version 23.20.1.70, which is available to testers through the TestFlight platform. The update marks the first public glimpse of how AI-generated stickers could integrate into daily chats, offering a quick way to transform a description into a shareable image sticker.
A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo illustrates the workflow: a user explains a concept in natural language, and the app responds with several sticker options generated by AI. The user can then pick a preferred sticker and send it to the intended recipient. One of the sample results shows a sticker for the search phrase “laughing cat on a skateboard,” demonstrating how descriptive input can translate into expressive visuals.
In addition to iOS, similar AI sticker generation features appear in a separate Android testing track. Some testers on Android running version 2.23.17.14 have access to the feature as part of ongoing experiments. The cross-platform presence suggests WhatsApp is exploring a unified AI-powered sticker experience across its mobile apps.
As for timing, WhatsApp has not announced a firm rollout date for the AI sticker creation and sending function. The broader AI roadmap discussed in September 2023 outlined plans to introduce further AI features, including a chatbot integration and enhancements for business accounts. Those promised capabilities were positioned to arrive later in 2023, with subsequent updates likely refining the user experience and expanding compatibility across devices and regions.
Earlier announcements also touched on a refreshed interface design for WhatsApp, signaling a period of visual and functional updates designed to improve navigation and ease of use as new AI tools are layered into the product.
