VK, the social network, reports that from August 20 to 22, a series of interactive cube installations will appear on streets across ten Russian cities in celebration of Flag Day. These installations are designed to invite everyday users to engage with technology in a playful, public setting, turning city corners into creative playgrounds that blend art, interaction, and social sharing.

The participating cities include Astrakhan, Volgograd, Kemerovo, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Perm, St. Petersburg and Saratov.

Each cube serves as a mini hub of activity. Passersby can take part in a game, craft digital artworks, and view three dimensional animated features. Access to every activity is gated by QR codes displayed on the cube’s faces, creating a quick bridge between the physical object and digital experiences.

By scanning a QR code on one of the cube faces, participants can choose words that they feel connect with the colors of the Russian tricolor. For instance, white may be linked to purity, blue to wisdom, and red to courage. As players select these words, they illuminate one by one on the cube’s screen, and the final result can be shared to a VKontakte profile, enabling a collective moment of social storytelling.

In another strand of the experience, people can use their phones to scan a QR code on the cube and generate artwork on their devices. The created image is then transformed into a digital representation and projected back onto the cube, creating a tangible loop between mobile devices and public display.

The remaining two faces of each cube act as canvases for dynamic art objects, offering evolving visuals that respond to audience interaction and the ambient environment. This aspect invites spectators to become co-creators, contributing to a living, breathing sculpture in motion right on the street.

Flag Day in Russia is officially observed on August 22, offering a moment for civic pride and national symbolism. The cube installations align with this occasion by turning public spaces into interactive galleries that celebrate color, culture, and community through a modern, digital lens.

Additionally, VK notes that an updated beta version of VK Videos has become available on iOS, expanding the ecosystem for video and interactive content on Apple devices.
