VK reports strong take-up of advanced account protection in 2023
Since the start of 2023, nearly 3 million VK users have opted into enhanced protection for their accounts. Reports indicate that more than 300,000 users activate this level of security each month. The figures come from VK’s press service and have been shared by RIA News in coverage of the company’s security initiatives.
In VK’s own statements, about three million service users strengthened their profile protection during 2023. The monthly adoption rate remains high, with over 300,000 users joining advanced protection on a regular basis. July stood out as the peak month for two-factor authentication adoption, with more than 400,000 users enabling this feature.
VK adds that roughly 50,000 users change their account passwords every day, and more than half of those changes result in the creation of stronger, more complex passwords. This pattern underscores a broad user awareness about password security and the importance of updating credentials periodically.
According to VK, the vast majority of hacking attempts target accounts that do not have two-factor authentication enabled. This observation confirms the effectiveness of the added security layer. VK and its partners deliver two-factor authentication through a single login system known as VK ID, which streamlines protection while maintaining robust security across services.
These updates reflect VK’s ongoing commitment to helping users safeguard their accounts with practical, user-friendly security options. The company emphasizes that embracing two-factor authentication and regularly updating passwords are key steps in reducing risk and enhancing overall account safety.
