The price tag for Apple’s AR helmet, known as Reality Pro, is reported to be just over $1,500 for a prototype of the mixed reality headset. This detail comes from 9to5Mac, which cites Chinese analysts.
According to the same report, Chinese analysts estimate Apple’s unit cost at about $1,500. The article notes that Apple’s production costs for the headset appear higher than those of some competitors.
The Wellsenn XR report lays out a thorough materials list for Apple’s upcoming AR helmet. It states that components cost Apple roughly $1,400, and when shipping is included, the per-unit cost rises to around $1,600.
The headset is expected to feature an Apple M2 chip, 12 GB of RAM, a 512 GB solid-state drive, and the latest wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, to deliver fast connectivity.
Among the most valuable components are the OLED displays, which are estimated at $280 to $320 each. A 14-lens camera array is projected to cost about $160.
VR headset expert Brad Lynch points out that Meta’s Quest Pro, which has faced restrictions in some regions, carries a lower manufacturing cost—roughly half of Apple’s headset. Based on this comparison, the assertion that Apple’s headset could launch at a price near $3,000 appears plausible to industry observers.
Analysts, around mid-May, suggested that Apple’s headset might carry a price range of $3,000 to $4,000, or the equivalent in other currencies at current exchange rates.
