The Taiwanese electronics maker MSI has rolled out the Claw portable gaming PC, positioning it as a direct competitor to Valve’s Steam Deck. The news comes from The Verge’s coverage, with the official reveal taking place during CES 2024 in Las Vegas.
Claw runs on Intel’s Meteor Lake Core Ultra processors announced in December 2023. MSI plans a trio of configurations that vary by chip and storage, with price points between $699 and $799. The entry model is described as featuring Core Ultra 5 and 512 GB of built-in storage, with shipments scheduled for the first half of the year.
In appearance, the Claw closely mirrors the Steam Deck: a touchscreen tablet flanked by side-mounted controllers. A standout feature is support for Intel XeSS upscaling, which MSI claims enables smooth play for AAA titles. The device also boasts the largest battery in this category, rated at 53 Wh.
Specifications include a seven-inch IPS display, up to 120 Hz refresh rate, 1080p resolution, and peak brightness of up to 500 nits. The Verge notes that a similar display panel is used in the Asus ROG Ally, underscoring MSI Claw’s competitive hardware positioning.
Additionally, early media has referenced an appearance in a remaster trailer for Half-Life 2, suggesting MSI’s device is part of a broader cross-media gaming conversation.
