One title rising in the independent scene is Mika and The Witch’s Mountain, a cooperative project between the Valencia studio Chibig, Nukefist, and partners. The game has confirmed its release date for August 21. Following the success of Summer in Mara, this Spanish developer draws attention again with a concept deeply inspired by Zelda Wind Waker and Studio Ghibli’s KiKi’s Delivery Service (1989). In this relaxing exploration adventure, players guide Mika, a young witch who delivers parcels to residents of a small island and learns what it takes to grow beyond her apprenticeship.

Hours to make friends and sail the skies

As anticipated, Chibig Studio has previously delivered solid experiences, and this project appears to be the one that has earned the most attention and resources from the team so far, at least by the outcomes observed. The journey climbs toward the peak of a mountain through a story about effort, friendship, and community support. “Meet Mika, a witch apprentice still testing her powers. To master her craft, she must help every resident living at the foot of the Witch’s Mountain, delivering packages on her magical broom. This voyage of self-discovery takes players to the summit through a tale of effort, friendship, and communal bonds,” the game’s synopsis explains.

System requirements

When the project was announced in 2022, Mika and The Witch’s Mountain set up a Kickstarter campaign that reached its funding goal in just two hours. A limited Steam demo was also released, inviting many players to try the gameplay and get excited for the full release. The game will arrive on Steam (PC) and Nintendo Switch on August 21. It is expected to reach additional platforms later, though no exact dates have been confirmed.

If hardware concerns arise, players can breathe easy, since the requirements are modest, especially with a Nintendo Switch version in the pipeline.
