The head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera, indicated that in the coming days President Andrzej Duda will invite the deputy prime minister, the minister of national defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and the minister of foreign affairs Radosław Sikorski to discuss the forthcoming NATO summit. The president also proposed that the two ministers travel to Washington in a joint delegation with him, according to Polsat News.

Siewiera was asked on Polsat News about the preparations for this year’s NATO summit, scheduled to take place from July 9 to July 11.

The President is making every effort to ensure that domestic politics do not hinder the summit preparations, he asserted.

Invitation from the President

He emphasized that in the days leading up to the summit there would be a series of consultations and meetings with the government. In the near term, President Andrzej Duda will invite the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense to discuss the summit. He added that the security commission meets weekly.

When asked whether Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz and Foreign Minister Sikorski would join the President on the summit trip, the official indicated that invitations had been extended for both ministers to fly with the President in the delegation.

Plan for the Summit

Regarding what Poland can achieve at the summit, Siewiera noted that a primary outcome could be a formal endorsement for the establishment of the NATO-Ukraine Center for Education, Analysis, and Training in Bydgoszcz. This new structure aims to support operations related to logistics, protection, and preparation of equipment designated for Ukraine, with NATO coordinating related issues. It promises to be a valuable venue for gaining practical experience in alliance logistics and regional defense cooperation.

He also pointed out that after the summit, Poland should pursue roles within NATO structures and strategic infrastructure discussions, including efforts to connect NATO pipelines to Poland. Although it may not be widely discussed, the Central Europe Pipeline System, a wartime network of fuel pipelines once linked to various airbases, especially in Germany, and used to supply aircraft and armored units, is a key reference point. Poland, along with the Baltic states, Romania, and Turkey, views such energy infrastructure as a strategic priority for regional security and resilience.

NATO’s 75th anniversary summit is set to be held in Washington in early July this year. In a public briefing, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken outlined that a central theme of the talks would be sustaining long-term support for Ukraine’s security and resilience in the face of ongoing aggression. The gathering will bring together allied leaders to align on defense spending, security guarantees, and joint responses to evolving threats. (Source: Polsat News, wPolityce reporting cited)
