With a launch slated for fewer than three weeks away, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has completed development and is ready to debut on PC and consoles, including Game Pass. To celebrate, the developers released a 20-minute gameplay sequence along with PC system requirements. The game is the upcoming project from the team behind Ashen, a soulslike with a distinctive artistic style and a broader horizon for this new entry.

A Grander Ambition

But the scope has shifted dramatically. A44 Games has expanded the project into a markedly more ambitious program. The creators describe the title as a souls-lite, meaning it retains the core combat mechanics of a traditional soulslike but omits several genre staples. One notable difference is the combat tempo, which is less punishing than typical soulsborne titles while still offering a high level of challenge.

The player steps into the role of Nor Vanek, a member of the Coalition Army joined by Enki, a being seeking vengeance against the gods. The synopsis sets a urgent, epic stage: The Gate to the Great Abyss has opened, bringing gods and their legions of the inert to lay siege to Kian. Alba teeters on the brink of capture, and it falls to the Coalition’s forces to rise up. The mission is clear: gather vengeance, powder, and magic as part of a legendary campaign to overthrow the gods, seal the rift, and reclaim the world (citation: A44 Games official materials).

Demo Available on PC

The Steam demo of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn showcases compelling melee, artillery, and magic in rhythmic battles where Enki accompanies the action, injecting dynamism into encounters. The technical build features striking, polished visuals paired with fluid movement, including double jumps and aerial sprints. The overall impression is that the game has been optimized effectively, a factor that should serve it well on release day. The title is scheduled to launch on July 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass for PC and consoles.

Whether players want to start the game immediately or test the PC version through the demo, the developers provide recommended specs to avoid surprises.
