Apple has acquired Mira, an AR startup that had partnerships with the US military and with a well known Japanese game company. The Verge notes that Mira CEO Ben Taf posted about the deal on Instagram, and mentions that the owner of Meta faced restrictions in Russia.

The price of the acquisition was not disclosed. The Verge estimates Mira’s market value around 17 million dollars. Reporters indicate Mira had previously been connected to former Apple designer Jony Ive.

One of Mira’s flagship products is the Prism Pro augmented reality headset. The company has contracts to supply this equipment to the US Air Force and Navy. The Navy reportedly paid about 702 thousand dollars, and it is anticipated that Apple will rework Mira’s military partnerships after the merger, according to The Verge.

N Mira also counts Nintendo as a major client. Nintendo purchases AR headsets for the Mario Kart attraction at theme parks in Japan and in Los Angeles.

The Verge states that as part of the deal, Apple took on at least 11 Mira employees.

Apple did not object to the Mira acquisition, but explained that it regularly acquires smaller companies as part of its growth strategy.

Previously, socialbites.ca reported that with the release of iOS 17, a new and useful feature appeared in the App Store.
