Apple once again shifts the mobile landscape with the debut of its iPhone 15 this year, unveiled during the Wonderlust event on September 12. The launch showcased a suite of innovations and introduced four new variants of the device. The crowd watched as Apple highlighted improvements in camera capability, processing power, and overall user experience, signaling another leap forward for the flagship line.

A recent study by Milanuncios reveals a notable uptick in the availability of multiple iPhone models on its platform. Consumers appear to be capitalizing on the opportunity to trade in current devices to fund the purchase of the newest model. Milanuncios notes that when August ads are compared with July 2023, there was a 20.2% rise in the number of listings in a single month. The average price for iPhone devices listed in September on the platform stands around 470 euros, indicating a robust market for both buyers and sellers in Spain as the new lineup arrives.

increasing supply

As supply climbs, a downward pressure on used iPhone prices emerges. During the launch week of the new model and the period of preorders on September 11, there was a sharp 6.2% rise in searches compared with the previous week, signaling growing consumer interest. Three models drew the strongest attention in particular. When the week of September 11 is contrasted with the week of September 4, the iPhone 13 Pro shows the sharpest gain with an increase near 75 percent, followed by the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone X, and iPhone 14, with growths of about 64.8%, 57.9%, and 33% respectively. This pattern illustrates how anticipation for the latest release shifts attention to slightly older devices as buyers weigh price versus capability.

Experts from Milanuncios remark that the ongoing Apple phenomenon persists beyond a single launch cycle. Users are listing their current iPhones to finance the new models or to recoup investment. By letting go of the previous generation, sellers also enable others to access earlier models at more competitive prices. This dynamic creates a broader marketplace where price elasticities shift in response to new product availability and perceived value, while buyers benefit from a wider array of options at various price points. In the view of Íñigo Vallejo, Milanuncios, the cycle shows how the ecosystem around Apple devices continually evolves as people trade up or reallocate devices to different needs.
