Polish CD Projekt RED, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, apologized for the appearance of offensive language in the Ukrainian localization of the game in its latest update. The studio stated that these statements were added without his knowledge and did not align with his position. reports DTF portal.
In the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update released in September 2023, players discovered that some dialogue in the Ukrainian localization contained Russophobic phrases. At the same time, these descriptions in other languages sound neutral or even positive. This caused outrage among the Russian-speaking gaming community.
In response, CD Projekt RED released an official statement in which it apologized for what happened and promised to change the offensive statements. The studio also confirmed that it was not involved in “translating” the game into Ukrainian, but instead hired an outsourcing studio. The name of this studio was not disclosed.
“The Ukrainian localization of Cyberpunk 2077 contains several wordings that may offend some Russian players. These statements are not written by CD Projekt RED employees and do not reflect our opinions. We are working to fix these and replace them in the next update. We apologize for this incident and are taking the necessary steps to ensure this does not happen again,” the developers said.
Along with the previously released update number 2.0, the developers released the first story addition to the game called “Phantom Freedom” on the night of September 26. It received Russian localization at the subtitle level, without dubbing.
