Sber’s neural network performed Symphony No. 1 by musician and composer Petr Dranga with the Grand Symphony Orchestra.

“We attach great importance to the development of artificial intelligence. We used our SymFormer neural network and trained it further. The uniqueness of today’s event lies in the fact that the neural network improvises in real time based on the information it receives,” said Alexey Minin, chief specialist in control technologies for experimental machine learning systems at Sberbank.

Petr Dranga noted that the rehearsals took place with artificial intelligence. He also added that he decides at what point artificial intelligence should be turned on.

Symphony No. 1 for Artificial Intelligence and the Grand Symphony Orchestra is written in classical structure and consists of four movements. In the first and second movements, the solo part was performed by virtuoso musicians from China and pre-recorded parts were performed. In these, SymFormer controlled the expression of the performance on stage using a virtual synthesizer. In the third and fourth episodes, viewers heard SymFormer’s improvisations in real time.
