Today, September 6, is Redhead Day. In honor of this event, we decided to talk about two charming redheads – Daphne and Velma from the animated series about the talking dog Scooby-Doo. Beautiful girls cool enlivened the team of detectives, which deals with paranormal cases. In this article, we will talk about Velma and Daphne and also show great cosplay on them.

Daphne and Velma in cartoons

The first animated series starring Velma Sinclair and Daphne Ann Blake was released in 1969. It was called “Scooby-Doo, where are you?” (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!) and it was there that all the members of the Mystery Corporation made their debut, including the cowardly Shaggy and the brash Fred. The concept is simple: a team of young people arrive with the talking dog Scooby at a place where ghosts, werewolves or vampires have been seen. There they investigate what happened and discover that they have a skilled production, played by one of the minor characters. The animated series was a huge success. It got a second season, as well as sequels, spin-offs, and crossovers with other characters.

Scooby’s story changed dramatically in 1979 with the arrival of the overly daring Scrappy-Doo puppy. The writers gradually began to forgo full-fledged investigations into short episodes of real paranormality, and Daphne, Velma, and Fred were left out of the main story. Years later, the characters returned in full-length cartoons – Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo & The Witch’s Ghost, and many others. In the latest animated series right now called “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who” (Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?), Daphne also has Velma. It was released three years ago, on June 27, 2019.

Over its thirty-year history, the depictions of girls in cartoons have not changed much. Velma acts as the brain of the team, noticing subtle details and often drawing the right conclusions during the investigation. Daphne, on the other hand, likes to flirt with guys, but attracts the attention of villains. As a result, she is often kidnapped and held captive.

Have you seen Scooby-Doo cartoons?

It is also worth paying attention to their appearance. Daphne is a slim and leggy beauty with well styled hair. She prefers short dresses and high heels. Velma, on the other hand, is a bit chubby, wearing shapeless sweaters and wearing wide-rimmed glasses. We are talking about cartoons, in other works their images look a little different.

Daphne and Velma in feature films

In 2002, the first movie dedicated to the Mystery Corporation was released, called “Scooby-Doo” (Scooby-Doo). Even then it became clear that transferring the animated series to the cinema format with live actors was not the best idea. The computer dog was more of an annoyance than entertainment, the jokes weren’t successful, and the plot didn’t catch on at all. It is therefore not surprising that the film was simultaneously nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award in two categories. Meanwhile, he collected a good box office, so he got a sequel and a prequel.

But for the purposes of this article, we are interested in how Velma has changed. In front of us is not a modest chubby girl, but a real beauty. In addition, in the second film she is ashamed of her appearance for some reason, and in order to overcome the complexes, she is dressed in a red tight suit. All this looks a bit strange, especially against the background of what we saw in the animated series.
