Minecraft is a game that does not have to be presented. The brainchild of Marcus Persson became a phenomenon that conquered millions of players, but attempts to expand the universe outside the original are still in question. Now Mojang with the support of Warner Bros. I made a new bet – “Minecraft in the cinema.” Has the film justified expectations and does the franchise receive a new impulse for development? We looked at the photo and hurry to share my impressions!

Minecraft film? On my big screen?
It is no secret that gamers meet news about the expansion of Minecraft outside the sandbox with skepticism than with interest, especially when Dungeons and Legends could not repeat the success of the original. After the announcement and first trailer, Minecraft in the cinema, doubts in the gaming environment was intensified: the schedule and the visual style were criticized, the direction approach was unclear … Looking at the trailers it was not clear – this is a film for children and adolescents or for those who have all fucked on minecraft?
“Minecraft in The Cinema” is not playful, no animation, not a classic blockbuster, and not even a traditional feature film. This is a film adjustment of the essence of Minecraft, placed on a large screen using CGI. Without the experience of computer games it is difficult to perceive what happens. It is a pity that the authors could not clearly convey this at the stage of the advertising campaign, because the correct positioning would significantly improve the perception of the film by the Mass -viewer.

Are the location of the camera and visual solutions of the film justified?
No film, no cartoon, but … what then?
There are many games here: techniques in setting up scenes and dialogues between the characters (they cannot be mentioned with all the desire), the demonstration of the upper world and the Pample Action, if you want to take the GamePad in your hands and pray from the heart. The most radical is the location of the camera – here “Minecraft in The Cinema” runs the usual view of films and can cause shock for cinema visitors.

All gamers are aware of the third person, in which the camera is behind and a bit over the character, so that you can see his model and the game world at the same time. And in the film “Minecraft in the Cinema” an inversion of the representation of the third person is implemented: the viewer looks at the characters for or side of the majority of the timing. Moreover, the characters almost always fill the space in the middle of the frame, and the square upper world literally “envelops” them. Classic laws of cinematography and animations do not work here.
She doesn’t forget Mojang and about the fanservice, forcing the film to activate nostalgia every minute. Blocks on blocks, mining, construction, crafts and recipes, individual gameplay mechanics, such as the railway with redstone or CYPAR Farm-Well-known things are used up to the maximum. Even massacre and other violence are beaten to not look cruel, remain recognizable in the context of Minecraft style: everything is square and cartoon, but it is clear that they have eaten someone.

The images are a clear, cubic style is carefully transferred to 4K and 3D effects in IMAX are impressive. The authors did not invent a bike – they took well -known textures and models and improved them, retaining their own Minecraft style. The film is clear and colorful at any time, even dark and gloomy zones, such as the Underworld, have their visual charm.
Cinema as a set of game quests
The plot turned out to be predictably simple: the four random people – Garrett “Garbage Man” Harrison, played by Jason Momoa (Jason Momoa); Teen Henry performed by Sebastian Hansen (Sebastian Hansen); His sister Natalie, whose role went to Emma Myers (Emma Myers); And the strong woman Gedempen, played by Danielle Brooks, is suddenly in the upper world.
Their usual life collapses in an instant, and now, to return home, this colorful company will have to get used to the new reality and obey its strange rules. The conductor in this cubic chaos will be Steve – an experienced vessel, the role of which was played by Jack Black.
In terms of the plot we have a classic about ‘Pogatyans’ in an alternative universe with a linear development of action: the heroes go from point to point, overcome obstacles, fight climbing plants and zombies and also try to stop the invasion of the minions of Malgosha, Queen Quaglins. In the final of course an epic battle. For video games – a great search, for a big film – void.
In structure, the film is comparable to Roud MUVI, where new characters appear in every act, and in the final all the plot lines collide at some point. A clear timeline would not have prevented here, but in the film it is not traced – nights replace the days in both worlds, but the whole story fits almost in two days.
Assessing “Minecraft in Cinema” in terms of artistic value is the task of clearly useless. The authors have not succeeded in transferring one of the ideas that were recorded in the plot in the beginning, and the images of the heroes are extremely schematic and unveiled by functional episodes. Speaking of this.
How important is the provisional experience of playing Minecraft for a complete perception of the film?
Signs and acting
The character of Jason Momoa is a beginner to miss a gamer, whose best days stayed in his youth, the company destroyed, and he, with his last strength, tries to tie the ends together. Emma Mayers plays Natalie, an older sister who has to take care of Henry’s younger brother and bursts between his duties, new work and adaptation in an unknown place. Henry himself is a brilliant but closed teenager who can create everything from everything. He has to fit in a new school, but it is not easy to do it if there are strange teachers and a stubborn classmates in the area.
Simple inhabitants in which the viewer will believe? Precisely. But even they have a strong side, not one of the heroes is shown by a tantrum, an idiot, psycho or with a number of other deviations and you know how fashionable it is now. The acting is uneven: Jack Black, Sebastian Hansen and Emma Mayers try to get used to the role, but Jason Momoa plays herself as if he had been called to film without script.
Costs of the characters? The deepest is connected to the “garbage collector” – he wants to correct his business that he concludes a dirty deal with Steve: a portal cube concludes in exchange for jewelry. As a result, he receives diamonds, but for some reason Henry gives the cube, and then he suddenly sacrifices himself and saves friends. Why? How did he get to this thought? Ay, viewer, have no difficulty we already have the next action scene on the road. With the right skill one could even throw motivation: the theme of friendship, attachment to the world of Minecraft, internal rebirth – but no, Momoa just disappears and leaves the viewer with the feeling of unreasonableness of this act.
Development of personalities of other characters? Well, they are rich. A few golden ingrons and kilograms of diamonds from the upper world work wonders, you know. In the course of the film, Natalie is shown a sister who loves his brother with a hot heart that takes care of him. But everything is resolved, it gets rich, Natalie throws a boring SMM marketing and opens the Kung Fu School. And Henry becomes a “master-co-maker”, which combines studies, programming video games and assembling slot machines.
Dynamics and friendliness keep the situation
During the session, the viewer is not allowed to be bored, because something is constantly happening on the screen: the heroes mourn the loss of their indigenous world and then fight with creams and zombies, find Steve, confronted with a new threats and therefore every five minutes. Every ten is a sharp turn, creating a feeling of endless movement. It is important that at this pace the film was not slipped into a chaotic mishmash, the director and screenwriters in one way or another managed to maintain a balance: the right rhythm is designed between the situation, the reaction of the characters, dialogues and the action.
It is good that they thought of spectators who never played Minecraft. Game mechanics, bows, craftsmanship and opponents are explained logically. When the viewer comes out of the game, deep references are prepared for him.
And Minecraft in the cinema tries not to look serious work, on the contrary, here every scene is saturated with humor and comic situations. No threats, complaints, conflicts on high colors or a confrontation in the style of Gangst. Even the last fight of Steve with the Kebly Malgosha seems more at the height of the children’s cartoon. There are also classic techniques of such films: “In every incomprehensible situation, Scream Louder” or scenes where the heroes discuss the seriousness of growing up and how good it was in their youth.
The main disadvantage of the film?

Better a lot of adjustments to the gaming film
Perhaps such a film is exactly what is needed in the spring: light, friendly, unobtrusive, without global disasters and pathos -superhelden.
Against the background of other high -profile premiers of this year – when the new “Captain America” turned out to be an unclear superhero drama, and the new “Snow White” turned out to be a failure – “Minecraft in The Cinema” has every chance to pay and spectators. With his clear and cheerful adventure in a well -known block world, he introduces entertaining functionality that is embedded in it.
It is worth noting that this is a different attempt to transfer the game universe to a large screen, and it is much more successful than the recent progging. She will certainly enjoy fans, and other spectators will offer a light, relaxed session for popcorn.
