Andrei Shevchenko, the owner of the 2004 Golden Ball, said that he lost in the elections in the executive committee of the European Football Association (UEFA) because of politics. His words lead Press Service of the Organization.
“Recently, Ukraine and I personally have received some signals that I did not want to see me in the administrative organ of UEFA. This has been confirmed with subsequent events in the Congress. We will not change our position in our football and maintain reforms.”
Seven people were elected at the UEFA Congress in Belgrade on March 3. Shevchenko did not fall between them.
In the spring of 2022, FIFA and UEFA decided to remove the Russian team and all Russian clubs from participation in all competitions controlled by these organizations following the proposals of the International Olympic Committee.
