In 2022, lucky owners of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series cards received DLSS 3 support, which improved performance and frame generation. However, the company admitted that the technology could be expanded to RTX 30 graphics cards.
Remember that DLSS 3 is used in games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake2 Atomic heart, Dragon’s Dogma 2 and others. It previously generated frames on optical accelerators, Bryan Catanzaro, vice president of applied deep learning research at NVIDIA, told Digital Foundry. However, the new generation of DLSS 4 now uses AI in many ways. So, NVIDIA is ready to study the implementation of the technology for RTX 30:
I think it’s primarily a matter of optimization, but also of design and finally of user experience. Let’s see what we can get out of the old equipment.

Of course, DLSS 4 is still hardware dependent, so you shouldn’t take Brian Catanzaro’s words at face value. However, his comment seems optimistic for owners of an outdated series of video cards.
Previously, NVIDIA revealed the difference in power between the RTX 50 and RTX 40 without using DLSS. We remind you that the new video cards will go on sale at the end of January. You can read more about this in our special article.
