How to transfer save files from Share or Steam to Xbox Game Pass
If you are going to transfer save files from a shared save folder, for example Steam to Xbox Game Pass, you will encounter problems: the file extensions are completely different, so if you play on a different launcher, you simply will not see your save files.
However, fans have already created a small program that can automatically convert Starfield save files from Steam to the Microsoft Store version on PC. To do this, follow these steps:
- Close the game and check the process starfield.exe completed.
- Back up your saved files.
- Download this program, but do not open it after downloading.
- Go to the folder containing your save files and try to open a file with the extension .SFS.
- Select as program downloaded .EXE file.
- Wait for the operation to complete and close the window.
- Repeat this as many times as necessary with other saves.
When the process is complete, the message will appear at the bottom of the window “Press any key to continue”. If the process was not successful, you will see the message “Wrong”. Most often this happens when space on the system disk runs out, because from one small file of no more than 10 MB, a whole folder of files is created, the size of which can exceed 400 MB.

Make sure you have backed up your original save files as this is an experimental program and the creator himself warns about this. However, this method helped us, so we share it with you.
It also happens that after choosing .EXE file as a program to open files .SFS Nothing happens. It is enough to solve the problem rename the downloaded .EXE file.
What else you need to know:
- The game must be closed during the conversion, otherwise you may encounter problems creating new saves;
- Transferred quick and automatic saves are listed below those already created;
- After you convert your saves, you will see your saves in the Xbox Game Pass version of Starfield. If you select save, you will also receive a banner “This preservation is dependent on content that no longer exists. Some items may no longer be available. Continue downloading?. Click “Yes” and continue playing.
