What to expect from Alan Wake 2: all the new information from gamescom 2023

The season of summer exhibitions and presentations is gradually coming to an end, ending with the large-scale gamescom 2023. The public was shown several new products, as well as trailers of already well-known and long-awaited hits. Among them and Alan Wake 2, whose gameplay from the Summer Game Fest 2023 presentation we analyzed in detail in another article. Now it’s time to analyze the new videos and collect all known information together.

Few doubted it, but Alan Wake 2 will be a direct continuation of the story about the unfortunate author. This is not a reboot or another dark story from Remedy Entertainment with a recognizable title. Before us is the development of all the ideas and storylines that gamers met in 2010.

Thirteen years have passed since the events of the first part. All the while, Alan continued to write a new book, tortured by the Darkness at the bottom of a mysterious lake. Judging by the trailers, Wake will still be able to escape from captivity, but the work, by analogy with the previous novel, will be completely forgotten. As before, the only way to prepare even a little for what’s to come is to search the pages scattered throughout Bright Falls. In addition, Alan will write another book with the player. Collecting various photos and information, you gradually create a concept of a novel that changes the reality around the author.

The writer is accompanied by an FBI agent – forensic psychologist Saga Anderson, who may be one of the characters in a novel to come out. True, at first their acquaintance will not work out. The gamescom video shows Saga’s partner rudely pushing Alan against the wall, claiming that the writer is the killer they need. Coinciding with Wake’s escape, Bright Falls will be overwhelmed by a wave of ritual murders, and these events are certainly linked. Lawyers are sure that it is Alan who leads the bloody cult.

It is officially known that the game has two full-fledged campaigns, between which you can switch at any time. To understand the full picture, you’ll need to see the story of the Saga first, then Alan, or vice versa. When the girl explores reality, the situation with Wake is much more complicated.

In the videos, we see the author travel in the neon twilight of the night through the deserted New York filled with various messages and supernatural powers. It mainly resembles the main building Control, and if you remember that both games are set in the same universe, you can expect some interesting cameos. Either we will be shown the whole process of preparing an escape from the house at a depth, or Darkness will periodically take over and drag the hero into his nightmarish fantasy world. It became clear from the new gameplay clip that someone is communicating with Alan and even helping him in the Dark Abode, though it’s a mystery who is hiding behind the mysterious voice in the phone booth.

Looks new from Remedy, just great. The play of light and shadow, overgrown forests and dark doorways illuminated by neon signs create a fantastic atmosphere. In the first part, the Darkness did not really frighten – obsessed people could hardly impress experienced gamers. In the sequel, however, lightless areas, shimmering figures and out-of-focus images provide the right tension. In addition, in the Dark Abode, Alan will constantly communicate with the Darkness. A variety of signs and graffiti, unexpected phrases from the void and billboards – everything has meaning and meaning.

Judging by the gamescom trailer, live action will continue to be actively used. Something like this was already in the first game, but with the possibilities of modern graphics, this solution gives a completely new experience. We are looking at the same characters, completely identical to the game graphics, but as if they are a little different. The feeling intensifies as Alan walks over to the TV and is literally caught up in the programme.

The developers have already confirmed several times that the remake was the main source of inspiration for them Resident Evil 2. Recognizable camera angles, slow running and lack of resources are immediately apparent. Alan and Saga only face a handful of enemies, but each is clearly more dangerous than their 2010 predecessors.

There will be fewer fights, but it is promised that they will become more intense and spectacular. Good old flashlight and torches in place. The process of weakening the light-possessed remained unchanged. Now, however, it is not enough just to mark the enemy, you must then shoot the burns for maximum damage.

A special investigative mechanism has been added especially for the Saga: the girl can analyze the evidence found, draw conclusions from it and set new goals. It is true that it is still unclear whether they are allowed to make mistakes in a way that alters the development of the plot.

Alan is still a writer, so he had some specific skills as well. In the Dark House, you must solve puzzles using the Angel Lamp, which absorbs light. The same device is capable of changing reality.

In Sagi’s “mindhall” analogy, Alan will be able to use a spark of inspiration (it’s not yet clear what it is) and do what he loves: write a book and change the world around him. For example, remove a blockage or open a closed door. Presumably, this will allow you to return to the Dark Room even after escaping, to open all the hidden paths and find new secrets with the help of inspiration.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about with the Alan Wake 2 soundtrack. Remedy Entertainment has always been good at choosing the right bands for their projects.

However, all fans are waiting for the return of the incredible Poets of the Fall. It was the compositions of these musicians that gave the first part the necessary flavor. In an interview, Sam Lake (Sam Lake) said that this is quite possible. And after the new gameplay video, it became clear that there will definitely be a return. The musicians appeared in a television broadcast in the Dark House.

The game will be released on October 27, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series S/X and PC. For many, this will be good news: there will certainly be Russian subtitles. Two DLCs are also expected, but nothing is known about them yet.

Despite the scant amount of information, the picture of the upcoming Alan Wake 2 is slowly emerging. A viscous and gloomy adventure awaits us, in which they will not be frightened off by ugly monsters, but by psychological stress and loneliness. Two heroes, each with their own history and abilities, must provide an unusual experience. If Remedy succeeds, the game will indeed be the successor to all the most successful ideas of the Resident Evil 2 remake.
