Mediaset España unveiled Telecinco’s refreshed phase this Monday, centering on two core pillars: a family-oriented channel that caters to diverse tastes and a flagship emphasis on live broadcasting. The company underscored that open and free public television remains a central value, guiding everything it does.
The management clarified that the move is not about severing ties with the past but about a thoughtful evolution. The aim is to honor a storied history while embracing change, maintaining a bold, risk-taking spirit and respecting all viewpoints without resorting to aggression. This sentiment was voiced by CEO Alessandro Salem.
The presentation took place at the Teatro Real in Madrid, where Salem stressed that the transition should feel like a natural progression rather than a rupture. He pointed to a successful trajectory that positions the network for continued leadership in the years ahead.
Confronting a recent dip in audience numbers, Salem noted the temptation to settle but argued for renewal and a renewed effort to improve. He insisted that the network must push through challenges, likening the journey to crossing a desert with the promise of an eventual end in sight.
New Telecinco, under the slogan Always with you, introduces visible changes starting this week. Notable shifts include the morning political program Critical View with Ana Terradillos and the social news show Let’s See with Joaquín Prat. Salem described the live format as the heart of the schedule, envisioning a broadcasting model from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that stays close to the street and the public.
He added that another major evolution involves offering a wider variety of programs, especially on weekends to better meet family viewing needs. The overarching idea is to position Telecinco as a comforting presence that can accompany viewers who may not have family closeness or who wish to celebrate togetherness, addressing a sense of growing individualism in modern society.
As part of the programming slate, areas such as The Musical of Your Life with Carlos Sobera return, along with the reality show Talent and the fiction series The One to Come and Entrevías. In line with a commemorative agreement celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary, Telecinco will also feature major films including Top Gun: Maverick, Cruella, and Frozen II.
The channel will also welcome back the reality format that defined a generation, the VIP edition of Big Brother, hosted by Marta Flich. Salem described this iteration as having a slightly different tone, inviting participants to tell stories that extend beyond the typical show dynamics and emotional confrontations.
Moreover, Telecinco will resume the network’s two leading stars with updated offerings. Jorge Javier Vázquez will host China Stories after the evening news, and Ana Rosa Quintana will continue guiding the morning leader into the afternoon with TardeAR, reflecting a strategic bet that has helped cement the network’s daytime leadership in recent years.
