RTVE currently slots no other music program into its daytime lineup, leaving a quiet gap in the channel’s musical offerings. La hora musa, a live performance space hosted by Maika Makovski, was announced this Thursday via the artist’s official X account: the show will not return to TVE with a third season that many fans awaited. The message was blunt: there will be no resurrection.
Following the COVID interruption, the team had hoped to relaunch the much-anticipated third season in a big way in 2022. The reality sounded sour to them, and they admitted that no amount of optimism could turn the page quickly enough. They explained on social media that, despite the longing from viewers and the team alike, the project would not resume as planned.
In lieu of a new slate, RTVE will revive some of the strongest performances from season two in four standalone installments available on RTVE Play, sharing a sense of gratitude with followers for their patience and loyalty. The message underscored that music remains a high-priority passion for the small screen, and it thanked fans for trusting the program’s mission.
Viewers were encouraged to enjoy music at its best during these live performances and to continue supporting the channel’s musical initiatives. La hora musa also recommended other RTVE music programs that showcase both established performers and emerging talents, signaling that the public broadcaster values a broad spectrum of musical expression.
The Maika Makovski format came to public attention during a period when the channel paused on-screen music productions due to a major industry-wide slowdown caused by the pandemic. The second season wrapped up in December 2019, but the show came back to La 2 in June 2021 to celebrate European Music Day with a special broadcast.
In 2018, a separate project called La hora musa emerged as an homage to the spirit of the legendary Música Sí. Its structure centered on on-stage performances and intimate interviews with the performers, echoing a classic music-show vibe while propelling contemporary artists into the spotlight.
The production headquarters are located in Sant Cugat del Vallés near Barcelona, where a formal agreement with Live Nation helps facilitate the participation of touring artists who are promoting in the country. This collaboration supports the live music ecosystem and gives the program access to a wide range of touring talent.
With no new seasons of La hora musa or Operación Triunfo in the immediate pipeline, TVE is entering a new phase of musical entertainment. The shift began earlier this year with the success of the Benidorm Fest, followed by Chanel’s Eurovision nomination and Hispavisión discussions. Looking ahead, the broadcaster is developing Groenlandia, a project designed to platform young talents across music, theatre, literature, and photography, reflecting an ambitious cross-disciplinary approach to cultivating national artistic voices.
