Dzanan Musa Undergoes Tracheal Surgery After On-Court Injury During Breogán Triumph
The Bosnian international Dzanan Musa, who plays for Breogán, had a tracheal fracture during a collision late in the match against BAXI Manresa, a victory Breogán sealed 98 to 94. He is currently under resuscitation but remains conscious and in good spirits, according to the latest medical update.
At the moment, the Breogán medical team at Lugo’s University Hospital is managing Musa’s care. He began the process of removing the breathing tube while still in surgery and will continue under specialist supervision in resuscitation for several hours, possibly today and into tomorrow. The club reports that his early words reflected determination to return to the court soon, expressing a wish to be back on the court in days. The statement from Breogán emphasizes the honor of having players of Musa’s caliber on the squad and praises his resilience.
The club also thanked the staff at the Lugo hospital for the attentive care Musa received during treatment. Musa will remain hospitalized through the coming week and is expected to miss Breogán’s upcoming fixtures, including an away game against Real Madrid on Sunday and a home clash with Zaragoza on Saturday the 23rd. The team will be without him as they aim to continue their campaign in the league, which remains highly competitive this season.
The injury occurred when Musa collided with the Argentine opponent Juan Carlos Valdeejasa’s image on the court during the ending stages of the match against Manresa. Referees did not call a foul at the moment, and the game continued despite Musa suffering injuries. He collapsed briefly on the floor but was able to rise and continue playing, coughing and experiencing breathing difficulties for a short period before finishing the game. Musa still contributed four of the last six points in the decisive stretch, underscoring his importance to the team in a tightly contested finish.
In the final minutes, Musa posted 27 points. He was eventually surpassed in the game by his teammate Rasid Mahalbasic, who finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. Musa even took time to acknowledge fans, signing autographs and posing for photos before departing the arena, Pazo dos Deportes de Lugo. He later underwent surgery at HULA, the Lucus Augusti University Hospital, for the injury.
