The project titled “Outlander: Blood of my Blood” expands the beloved saga by exploring the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents. Serving as a prequel to the long-running series, it is set to premiere on Starzplay for audiences in Europe, Latin America, and Brazil on an announced but yet-to-be-confirmed date.
Writers have already begun developing the concept. The title will center on the parents of the central Outlander figure, Fraser, with the original series leads connected to the narrative through their roles as Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser. These characters are portrayed by Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe respectively.
“The creative team is eager to reveal more of this living world and invite viewers back to the origin,” stated a Starz executive involved in original programming.
Matthew B. Roberts is attached as creator, executive producer, and lead writer for the prequel, a role he also holds on the ongoing seventh season of Outlander in production.
The project will be supported by producers Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore. Diana Gabaldón, author of the novels on which the series is based, will participate as a consulting producer.
The Outlander book series, authored by Gabaldón and comprising nine titles, has achieved global sales of roughly 50 million copies to date.
Since its 2014 premiere, the series has chronicled the adventures and time-travel journeys of Jamie and Claire across history and romance.
