Moscow Cultural Institutions Rally Support for Crocus City Hall Victims

The Moscow Zoo and several city museums have pledged that every ruble from ticket sales will be directed to assist victims of the Crocus City Hall attack. This pledge was announced by Natalya Artyukhina, the director of the Moscow Cosmonaut Museum, and Evgeny Bogatyrev, the head of the State Pushkin Museum. They emphasized a collective desire to respond to the crisis with tangible support for those affected.

In a statement cited by Moscow city news agency, the staff at the Moscow Zoo expressed their commitment to turning all ticket income into relief for the victims. They underscored that it is crucial not to remain passive in the face of tragedy and that they stand in solidarity with the families and communities impacted by the events. Svetlana Akulova, the General Director of the Moscow Zoo, echoed this stance through her remarks and the institution’s ongoing public message of support.

The proceeds raised from zoo visits will be transferred to the Russian Red Cross, ensuring immediate aid can be dispatched to those in need and support ongoing humanitarian response efforts in the wake of the attack.

On the evening of March 22, a terrorist attack unfolded at the Moscow Crocus City Hall concert venue. Before the scheduled performance by the picnic group, armed assailants entered the hall and opened fire on concertgoers. The assault was followed by explosions and a spread of fire. In response, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case charging an act of terrorism under the country’s Criminal Code. In the days that followed, city officials cancelled public entertainment events and the mayor declared a day of mourning to honor the victims and those affected by the tragedy. This period of national mourning and citywide respite reflected the gravity of the incident and the collective effort to support those enduring the consequences.

Earlier efforts to assist donors included free drinks and food organized by initiatives such as Delicious and full stop and Kitchen in the Area, providing hospitality alongside charitable giving.
