According to the decree of the government of the Russian Federation, Moscow and St. Duty-free shops will open in St. Petersburg for diplomats and employees of international organizations. This has been reported “Parliamentary newspaper”.
Diplomats will be able to buy goods not only for rubles, but also for currency: euro and dollar. Tobacco products, alcohol, perfumes, cosmetics, jewellery, smartphones and watches will be on the shelves. All goods can only be purchased at retail and upon presentation of documents confirming the official position and accreditation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council International Relations Committee Vladimir Dzhabarov noted that duty-free zones are an additional source of foreign exchange. They will operate in only two cities: Moscow and St. St. Petersburg.
Customs officers will provide security and control over the goods. In the future, the stores are expected to become a chain established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with another organization. It will be selected as a result of the competition.
Even in the USSR there was a network of stores “Beryozka”. In them, the sale of goods took place through foreign exchange. The diversity in them was the same as stated in the resolution.
