People who suffer from seasonal allergies during the flowering period should reconsider their diet in the spring, as malnutrition can worsen the problem. Lyudmila Rumyantseva, chief technologist of the company “Lots of Salmon”, told socialbites.ca.

“Especially in spring, allergy to flowering can be triggered not only by pollen but also by malnutrition. For this reason, people’s immunity is weakened and their body’s resistance to stress is low. “During the flowering period, the body is especially strongly affected by factors such as excess estrogen and vitamin B6 deficiency,” Rumyantseva said.

According to the expert, hypoallergenic vegetables and fruits should be consumed during this period.

“These include cucumbers and lettuce – they not only saturate the internal organs and tissues with moisture, but also have a positive effect on the condition of the mucous membranes, as well as potatoes and cabbage, and fruits – green or baked apples and pears. “Seaweed can also help fight allergies,” said the expert.

He added that it is better for those with allergies to avoid stone fruits such as grapes, apples, cherries and peaches. However, they can still be consumed under certain conditions.

“There is a trick. During heat treatment, allergens are destroyed, so compotes from these products do not harm in any way,” explained the food technologist.

He also recommended adding grains such as rice, buckwheat and quinoa to the diet, and fermented dairy products such as cottage cheese, kefir, yogurt or plain yogurt. The oils found in coconut, olive oil and avocado will also be beneficial.

“Eating meat is not prohibited in all kinds of seasonal allergies. I only recommend lean versions of beef, turkey, chicken and rabbit. Boiled fresh fish and eggs will also be very useful,” added Rumyantseva.

The expert noted that people with pollen allergies should avoid red and orange vegetables and fruits, as well as hazelnuts, chocolate and alcohol during the spring months. Bread should be replaced with dry biscuits and diet bread.

“It is better to exclude beer and smoked foods even before the start of the flowering season,” the expert said.
