Actor Ivan Okhlobystin has publicly commented on the departure from Russia of comedian Semyon Slepakov, who has been labelled a foreign agent in Russia. Okhlobystin described Slepakov’s decision to leave as an act of betrayal. The remarks are cited from aif.ru in coverage of the exchange of views surrounding the event.

According to Okhlobystin, he does not believe Slepakov shares that perspective, yet he sees the move as a betrayal. He added that the reaction to the situation should be to let it go and forget these tensions, suggesting this may be the healthiest response to the current strain.

Okhlobystin noted that he did not form a friendship with Slepakov during the production of the series Interns, where Slepakov served as a producer and one of the authors of the project.

He described Slepakov as very witty but indicated he did not build close personal ties with him, saying he was more aligned with other colleagues.

The actor explained that he has always felt wary of Slepakov, citing what he perceived as Slepakov’s somewhat dismissive attitude toward people he viewed as below his own status. Okhlobystin recalled an old song by Slepakov about a priest that many interpreted as referencing the actor, which added to his discomfort.

Okhlobystin stated that while he is not overwhelmed by pain, he has drawn his own conclusions about Slepakov’s actions, labeling them as traitorous. He expressed doubt that Slepakov has thoroughly considered the implications of his choices and argued that the act stemmed from a disdain for people whom Slepakov views as not belonging to his circle of influence.

Slepakov left Russia in March 2022 and has indicated there are no plans to return. He subsequently appeared on the foreign agents register and pursued legal action to have the status removed, which was denied.

In related news, Orbakaite addressed rumors about leaving Russia, denying those claims.
