The Skyline Benidorm Film Festival marks its seventh edition, celebrated from March 25 to April 1, 2023. The festival features a Screenplay Competition open to short films across fiction, animation, and documentary styles, with entries accepted in both Spanish and Valencian to reflect the region’s linguistic richness.

In this year’s competition, one of the ten finalists’ scripts earned a notable placement during the festival period. The presented works must be original and written for this event, with a submission window that closes on December 31. Eligible scripts may be original screenplays or literary adaptations, limited to a maximum of 20 pages, including the cover, and must not have been produced prior to the festival.

From all registered projects, ten finalists are selected by a jury to be evaluated during the festival, which runs from March 25 to April 1 the following year. The Best Screenplay Award carries a prize of 1,000 euros and a trophy, with trophies and prizes awarded at the final gala. The official rules and extra details can be found on the festival’s website and its social media channels.

Shortpitch and other opportunities

The registration period opens for participation in the fourth edition of Shortpitch, a program designed for directors or producers nationwide who have a short film project in development or in pre-production. This section highlights practical opportunities for emerging filmmakers to present concepts and receive feedback from industry professionals.

Additionally, viewers can review the fundamental terms of calls for participation in the festival’s departments. The program includes formal opportunities, European initiatives for Young Creators, and the seventh year of the festival’s Ibero-American strand, though the window for those calls closed on January 31.

The festival also features remarks and announcements by Beatriz Hernández, the director of Skyline Benidorm, acknowledging the contributions of participants and outlining forthcoming events and opportunities within the festival’s framework.

21,000 Euros in prizes drive the Skyline festival forward. Beatriz Hernández and the team emphasize that short films advancing to the finals in the official section stand a chance to be considered for invitations to the Goya Awards. This year’s competition expands its prize pool to a total of 21,000 euros in awards, underscoring its growing prominence in the regional and national film landscape.
