Platform Salvem l’Ideal remains steadfast in its campaign, insisting that the old cinema should stay in public hands and serve cultural purposes. It emphasizes that the Generalitat does not concede on acquiring the property and sees creating a cultural hub in Alicante as a pivotal objective.
The group filed requests through the Ministry of Interior and through official channels. They urge transparency in culture-related matters, including tax authorities and civic participation, calling for the public disclosure of assessments. An allocated budget of 5.5 million euros is cited for the potential purchase of the building.
Generalitat refuses to buy Ideal cinema and opens the door to a possible hotel use.
Salvem l’Ideal notes that media coverage and official documents published by the Consell have not altered their stance. They demand a formal transparency review under the regional Transparency Law dated 2013, sections 8 and 31, to ensure accountability in public decisions.
Additionally, the movement seeks official statements from ministers across the relevant departments to defend public and cultural heritage in Alicante.
“We do not give up on public procurement”
Rather than retreat, Salvem l’Ideal continues to champion the historic value of the property, arguing its past and present significance. They contend the site should remain in the public domain to enable cultural use and prevent conversion into a hotel. The group notes that Alicante currently hosts a single and a half theaters in contrast to Valencia and Castellón, underscoring the need to protect cultural capacity in the city.
The movement believes Salvem l’Ideal owes a cultural debt to Alicante and argues that purchasing the old cinema would be a meaningful first step toward restoring public access to the venue and supporting local cultural life. [Citation: Salvem l’Ideal Coalition]
