M Fest closes the 2023 edition with a special night planned for Friday, November 17. The event brings together the singer Maika Makovski and the Alicante-based group Donkey on the stage at the Mediterranean Foundation Alicante Classroom located on Avda. Doctor Gadea, 1.
Last month, the Akdeniz Foundation Alicante hosted a musical centerpiece featuring a double concert that balanced the depth of established artists with the fresh energy of rising Alicante groups.
The fifth edition celebrated artists like Helado Negro, Carlota Flâneur and Maika Makovski, alongside three local bands from the province: FlyingPigMatanza, Viscopaf and Burro. This festival serves as a launching platform for emerging groups in the country.
National artists and Alicante groups unite for M Fest
The Mediterranean Foundation views M Fest not as a simple festival but as a movement to connect Alicante musicians with broader audiences while supporting their professional growth.
Maika Makovski, born in Palma de Mallorca in 1983, is a multifaceted artist known for singing, acting, visual arts, and composing. With eight studio albums, live performances, theater and film scores, and tours across Europe, the United States, and Latin America, Makovski approaches this new stage with confidence and an upbeat belief that the journey is just beginning.
Makovski defies predictability. Her exceptional musical talent, wide range of influences, and relentless curiosity make her a standout figure in today’s music scene.
Her career began at the age of twenty and has stayed true to her roots while continuously seeking a unique voice, as reflected in the latest work MKMK released recently. The project blends bright textures and bold accents, crafted to surprise and energize listeners.
Donkey
Donkey brings together two artists who started as independent voices on an intimate acoustic stage. Beatriz Montiel and Conrado Isasa fuse Montiel’s intimate pop with a poetic handling of everyday life, infusing the music with symbolic imagery.
Montiel’s voice blends with Isasa’s refined style, giving the melodies new meaning. Donkey stands out for sensitivity, charm, and courage as they shape a fresh musical space shared by these two artists.
Loyalty
Luis Boyer, president of the Mediterráneo Foundation, speaks to the foundation’s role in enriching Alicante’s music scene. The mission is to expand cultural offerings, attract a younger audience, and strengthen ties with longtime supporters through M Fest, serving as a bridge between emerging artists and a broader audience with emphasis on the Alicante province.
The festival goes beyond showcasing music. It aims to be a growth tool for local artists, featuring a double-session format in which groups with different trajectories share the stage, fostering cultural and musical exchange.
M Fest’s legacy
Since its inception, Fundación Mediterráneo has worked to position M Fest as a solid platform highlighting the state’s musical diversity from Alicante. The festival showcases a range of genres, from folk to hip hop, reflecting the region’s rich sonic tapestry.
The festival is coordinated as a concert series with a focus on three key dates, inviting audiences to experience a wide variety of styles. The selection process for bands is meticulous, ensuring active involvement in current or upcoming albums and presenting a distinct repertoire.
Beyond a simple festival, M Fest aims to enrich Alicante’s cultural program, draw audiences of all ages, and feature a programming slate rich in genres and high-quality music. Tickets for the double concert, starting at 8:30 pm, are available at the box office and on the festival website.
