A Danish filmmaker of international renown, Lars von Trier, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The news was reported by CPH Publication and subsequently confirmed by Zentropa, the Danish production company behind many of Trier’s projects. Zentropa stated that Trier is currently in good spirits and receiving treatment to manage the symptoms of the condition.
According to Zentropa, the diagnosis will influence Trier’s public schedule as he works on the third season of the television drama Kingdom. Officials noted that there would be fewer interviews conducted as the production nears its premiere, which is slated for later this year. The team emphasized that the third season would mark the conclusion of the Kingdom series.
Earlier previews associated with Kingdom have circulated, including trailers connected to the third season. The first season of Kingdom originally aired in 1994, followed by the second season in 1997. The series has recently been positioned for release on streaming platforms and traditional television in the fall, with the project described as a culmination in Season 3.
The ensemble cast remains a core element of the project. Returning to their familiar roles are Gita Nerby, Peter Mygind, Soren Pilmark, and Udo Kier. In addition, Nicholas Bro and Lars Mikkelsen are slated to join the cast for the forthcoming installment, reinforcing the show’s legacy as a cult favorite and a benchmark in Danish television drama. The production team continues to present Kingdom as a bold, character-driven narrative while adapting to the realities of supporting a high-profile creator amid health concerns.
