Gravina Museum of Fine Arts Expands Its Educational Program for 2022–2023

The Gravina Museum of Fine Arts has launched a broad educational program for the 2022/2023 school year. It comprises five distinct learning tracks designed for every school level, all grounded in the museum’s permanent nineteenth-century exhibition. The program weaves major themes from Spanish art with related artists, creating a contemporary dialogue that invites students to engage directly with works. Schools receive free admission.

Student itineraries provide thematic journeys in Spanish or Valencian, complemented by hands-on activities set within the gallery spaces. For younger learners, there is an interactive Painter with a Gym Game activity, where Laura García de Giner assembles the materials needed to run the session. The Priority itinerary explores Stories of Seas and Harbors, encouraging comparisons between nineteenth-century society and the modern world.

For secondary students and those preparing for higher education, three routes reinforce core lessons and topics. The Inside Experiences track spotlights Alicante painters who shaped the nineteenth century, while younger ESO students follow the paths of local artists on their rise to national and international recognition. A fourth-year ESO and Baccalaureate Art itinerary, The Art World from the Museum, pairs with a companion History itinerary titled Parts of History through Art. In both programs, participants help shape the route by selecting works that spark discussion and interpretation.

Educators receive five information brochures, and more details about the itineraries are available on the museum’s website.

Interested schools, institutes, and cultural centers can begin booking guided transitions, offered from October through June, Tuesday to Friday, between 10:00 and 14:00.

Julia Parra, Vice President for Culture, noted a strong demand from schools to visit the Diputación de Alicante’s cultural facilities, with visits slated to begin on 1 October. She remarked, “It is a pleasure to continue this program, which invites a young audience to experience one of our principal museums and view works by Alicante artists alongside many other representatives of our cultural heritage.”

José Aparicio: From Alicante to Painter at the Court of Fernando VII

Guided tours for groups remain available for both the permanent collection and selected temporary exhibitions Tuesday through Sunday during museum hours. Exhibitions will be on display through the first weekend of October. Tours featuring Jose Aparicio are offered in several languages, including Spanish, Valencian, English, and French. Weekend guided passes can be arranged in advance or on-site, with temporary exhibitions available on Saturdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 11:00 for permanent collections and 12:00 for temporary shows.

Additionally, the museum team continues preparations for future experiences, working with expert staff to develop a new theatre-based visit series scheduled to premiere at the end of October. These efforts expand the visitor experience beyond static displays to include live, interactive programming.

Notes: All programs are crafted to be accessible to international visitors and students from Canada and the United States studying Spanish art history, museum studies, or related disciplines. The museum emphasizes inclusive access, multilingual guidance, and meaningful engagement with regional art heritage.
