On August 20 and 21, the Voznesensky Center will stage the premiere of an audio-visual performance titled “Forgive me, all mine,” directed by Andrey Zhiganov. The production draws its core concept from the play “I., 9 years old,” which itself is inspired by a collection of nineteen children’s drawings created by the playwright Artem Maternalsky. The creators intend this show to function as a doorway into the inner world of an eight- to ten-year-old observer, inviting audiences to experience perception through the fresh, unfiltered lens of childhood.
The creators describe the project as a journey aimed at capturing a spontaneous, primary response to the surrounding world—unshaped by adult discourse or conventional interpretations. They reference the spirit of abstract expressionist exploration, where the act of looking is as important as what is seen. The visual language mirrors the raw immediacy found in childlike drawings and echoes movements associated with artists such as Cy Twombly, whose work often treats ordinary scenes with an striking, elevated ambiguity. In this frame, everyday images attain a remarkable, almost sacred status, inviting viewers to slow down and notice details that might usually slip past the eye.
The production is structured in three distinct but interconnected parts. It opens as a mono-performance set to the music of Kirill Shirokov, creating a concentrated, intimate encounter between performer and audience. Following the solo piece, the experience evolves into an audio-visual installation, blending soundscapes with moving images to immerse attendees in a sensory landscape. The program closes with an alternative music concert, offering a dynamic shift in tempo and mood that broadens the emotional palette of the event. This tripartite arrangement is designed to sustain curiosity and encourage multiple modes of engagement, from quiet contemplation to more immersive, participatory listening experiences.
